Angwamo, which can also be termed oiled rice in English, goes beyond just cooking together oil and rice and perhaps salt; that’s just the SHS boys method of cooking Angwamo. But there are better ways of preparing this fast food to make it taste as if you spent hours on it. The procedure is as simple as ABC.
What is Angwamo?
Ghanaians prepare Angwamo, a simple fast food, using rice, oil, salt, beef, sardine, and some other vegetables. The word Angwamo is a Twi word that simply means oil-rice. While it’s ideal to consume this dish in the afternoon or evening, there’s nothing wrong with enjoying it in the morning. The food, which normally takes about 30 minutes to prepare at a lower cost, is popular with many people, especially students in hostels and construction workers. Of course, I’m about to show you how to elevate the traditional Angwamo to a new level.

Steps for making Angwamo
Step 1: Wash the rice, then drain it in a medium bowl of clean water.
Step 2: Put the saucepan or cooking pot on fire with medium heat and heat a small amount of oil, then cook the bay leaves and Senegal pepper (Hwentia). Let it fry until golden brown, and remove the bay leaves and Senegal pepper from the oil with your ladle.
Step 3: Slice one onion into pieces, pour half of it into the oil that is still on fire, and let it fry until golden brown. At this point, you can remove the fried onions or leave them like that, depending on your preference.
Step 4: Saute the onion and meat (salted beef). Over medium heat for about one minute, add the rice, and cook for about two minutes, continually stirring.
Step 5: Now, add water to the rice in the saucepan or cooking pot until the water is slightly above the rice level. After adding the water, add a half of a Maggie cube and stir thoroughly. Allow it to cook for five minutes, covered with a lid.
Step 6: Now open the saucepan’s lid and add the remaining sliced onion to the rice. Stir.Leave it for some time until it’s cooked and mushy. Now you can turn off the fire or heat source.
Step 7: Fry your eggs in the frying pan the way you want them.
Step 8: Blend your red hot pepper together with the remaining onion in a blender and add a bit of salt to it.
Step 9: Serve your angwamo with the blended pepper, fried eggs, and sardine.
